Guided by an integral map, participants explore health promotion approaches that generate higher levels of health, well-being and healthy human development – in other words, healthy people in healthy communities.
Explore the foundations and practical applications of an integral approach to health promotion and education, including:
* A meta-level salutogenic framework for generating and enhancing higher levels of health - in people and in communities; * An integral policy lens, adding depth and connectivity to healthy public and private policy initiatives; * Capacity building to foster healthy human development - a key factor in generating increased health and well-being * A capacity building model that supports practitioners with practical tools to address all determinants of health, well-being and healthy human development: social, economic, environmental, physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural; * Fostering response-ability - the capacity to respond to complex challenges and promising potentials; * Leveraging the contributions of community members through meaningful engagement and collaboration, catalyzing health-generating assets and positive change.

We will explore applications of leadership theory to leadership practice in professional and community settings. Integral Approaches to Collaboration: Taking our Thinking and Practice to the Next LevelAre we making the most of our potential for effective collaboration? We know that our collaboration initiatives haven't always flourished. And while researchers have identified a number of important factors influencing the success of collaboration, our toolkits aren't yet complete. The Challenge of CollaborationSometimes, two heads are better than one. This is often the case when communities come face-to-face with complex challenges. But are we making the most of our potential for effective collaboration? The foundations of a healthy community – including such essentials as health and safety, affordable housing, early childhood development, food security, and environmental sustainability – can no longer be siloed into the mandate of a single organization, sector, or governance body. These and other complex community challenges will benefit from collaborative and integrated contributions from the public, private and voluntary sectors. By meshing the ideas, perspectives, experience and resources of diverse participants, we maximize our efforts and come closer to solving seemingly intractable social issues.
But, we know, our collaboration initiatives haven’t always flourished. And while researchers have identified a number of important factors influencing the success of collaboration, our toolkits aren’t yet complete. The integral framework makes an important contribution, connecting the dots among the factors that are known to affect our collaboration, and asking us to consider a few more. With comprehensive and integrative thinking and practice tools, we pay fuller attention to the dynamics that shape our collaborative initiatives. An Integral Contribution to CollaborationAn integral approach boosts our capacity for effective and meaningful collaboration by: - Charting the complexity of the issue, identifying opportunities for shared learning and action;
- Acknowledging the interconnections between the inner experiences and actions of change agents, and the cultural and systemic dimensions in which change takes place;
- Building common language and concepts, goals and objectives, across organizations and sectors; and
- Leveraging community contributions & creating the conditions for comprehensive and positive change.
Taking our Collaboration Practice to the Next LevelWith an integral approach to collaboration, we enhance our community’s ongoing capacity to address complex challenges – not just for the duration of this collaborative effort, but for years to come. In any organization or sector, “taking our practice to the next level” means aligning strategic thinking and action with integral principles. And it means building capacity in ourselves as well as in the community. With an integral framework to guide our work, we make a deeper difference, and leave a life-affirming legacy.

Response-ability and Resilience: Boosting Community Capacity for Healthy ChangeThese days, there's lots of talk about resilience, and calls to action to create "resilient communities." But, when we consider our capacity to navigate complexity and generate healthy change, resilience is only one side of the coin. Response-ability is another essential capacity claiming our attention in these complex and challenging times.
Resilience describes the capacity to cope and adapt in the face of adversity, trauma and stress. Response-ability, on the other hand, describes our capacity to respond positively and proactively - not only to our problems, but also to our potentials. Healthy communities are both resilient and response-able. And with an integral thinking and practice framework to guide us, we engage both capacities more effectively and sustainably, generating higher levels of health, well-being and healthy development - in people, communities, and in the environment we all share.

This workshop explores ground-breaking thinking and practice approaches for catalyzing effective and sustainable change – in people, in organizations, in communities. Readers are introduced to new ways to understand participation in change-making, and to Presencing, a promising new approach for dialogue, deliberation, and decision-making. With new thinking to accompany new tools, organizational and community leaders expand their capacity to promote positive change.

Vibrant Volunteerism: Integral Insights and Inspirations Volunteer patterns are changing, all over the world. To reinvigorate organizations and communities with vibrant volunteerism, we need new ways to make sense of these trends.
The values structures, or mindsets, that have been the foundation of volunteerism for more than a century are changing. The ways we participate in community life change as people change and grow. The average level of consciousness keeps expanding, bringing new ways to express our human need to participate and contribute. To build healthy organizations and communities, the voluntary sector must keep pace with these changes.
Participation is the essence of volunteerism. Participation is also at the heart of engaged citizenship, social capital, asset building, and all other forms of community contribution. Not surprisingly, participation patterns evolve as human beings evolve. To understand these shifts in participatory patterns, we need better understanding of patterns of human development. Each stage of development is characterized by a unique mindset and a unique participation profile. Participation patterns and profiles reflect a diverse range of mindsets, or worldviews. The ways we see the world shape the ways we participate in the world. Within each mindset or worldview a participant will have different needs, motivators, preferences, barriers and capacities. One size does not fit all.
An integral lens offers new ways to think about volunteerism and meaningful engagement. Evolving participation profiles provide a practical framework for understanding shifting patterns in volunteerism and other forms of contribution. By understanding emerging patterns of human development, the voluntary sector can more effectively tap into the participation potentials of all citizens.

In this engaging session, Tam introduces presencing and conscious participation - two powerful tools for creating positive change in ourselves, our organizations and our communities. We begin with the understanding that we live in a participatory universe; knowingly or not, each of us actively participates in the creation of unfolding realities. When our participation is sparked by awareness and intention, we make a bigger difference in the world.
"Presencing," a state-of-the-art technology from Peter Senge, Otto Scharmer and colleagues at MIT, is a good example of participation at work in the world. Grounded in Scharmer's influential Theory-U, the practice of presencing supports us to inquire more deeply, expand our awareness, connect with Source and, with expanded awareness and intention, bring positive potentials into the present.
